The Law of Attraction

Chances are that you’ve heard a lot about “the law of attraction”. I know I have, especially in many of the online circles I’m in. The Law of Attraction forms the basis of teachings put across in Rhonda Byrne’s best-selling book “The Secret”. But what is the law of attraction and how could it benefit you? Well, let’s take a moment to run through the basics!

What Is the Law of Attraction?

Let’s start out with a brief summary. The law of attraction is a belief that the universe provides you with whatever your thoughts are focused on. Accordingly, if you think of positive things and things that you want to manifest and happen, you will live a more positive life in general and these things will eventually come to you.

At the same time, if you are always dwelling on the negative and thinking about the worst that could happen, you will actively bring negative energy into your life and you will ultimately encourage negative things to actually occur. In this sense, the philosophy could be referred to as “like attracts like”.

Using the Law of Attraction

Of course, some people will be skeptical about this philosophy. You will get people who argue that you cannot control what life throws at you by simply thinking happy thoughts.

I was one of those people for a long time and for many reasons. When you have mental health issues (hey there, Anxiety and Depression!) then someone telling you to focus on the positive can make you a little… stabby.

Yet even in my anxiety I find myself working through it by focusing on, you guessed it, not being anxious. So while it may not be applicable to every aspect of your life, there is a lot to be said for it!

There are various ways that you can incorporate the law of attraction into your life. Here are just a few to consider if you’re willing to try this out!

Visualisation Tools

The first step that you should try your hand at is visualisation. This is a process in which you visualise what you want to happen. It is commonly carried out in one of two ways – meditative visualisation or active visualisation.

Meditative visualisation will involve sitting in a calm setting and spending about ten to fifteen minutes each day imagining and putting together a mental image of ideal scenarios and coming to conclusions about how you want your certain scenarios or your life in general to pan out. You can put these thought out into the universe and the universe will deliver. Active visualisation involves giving these thoughts a more tangible presence. You can write them down or express them in another creative way.

Hypnosis Tools

If you are struggling to put your all into this process or believe in it wholeheartedly, you could practice self-hypnosis to encourage a more positive and can-do mindset. There a range of hypnosis downloads out there that can help you with this!

Affirmations are another great way to focus your mind on manifesting things in your life.

Getting Involved Within Community

If you want a little support along the way and are interested in a further discussion regarding the law of attraction, there’s a huge community out there who are more than willing to discuss the topic. Watch videos, engage in discussions on online forums, and talk with other people invested in this law!

These, of course, are just some of the basics to do with the law of attraction. So, why not incorporate it into your life? There’s nothing to lose!
