October was a very unpleasant month. It was full of so much stress that by the end of it, I was in full overwhelmed and panic mode.
My regular self-care routine didn’t seem to be making a dent in my stress levels. So, I sat down and made a list of things I needed to do to feel better. Instead of what I call maintenance self-care (the daily routine stuff), I needed to focus on things that aren’t part of my daily routine. It’s been just four days I already feel so much better.
I’m writing out a schedule for myself each morning. It stops my brain from jumping from task to task and getting overwhelmed. I started reading every night again (I’ll be writing a blog post on tips to overcome reader burnout soon!). And I am journaling each morning.
Those are all fairly small things and not very time-consuming but they make a huge difference.
Self-care is such a fluid thing. A consistent self-care routine is important but so is being able to anticipate when we might need more than usual.
30 Days of Gratitude Challenge
In addition to journaling and writing about my feelings, I’m also going to be using this gratitude challenge I created a few years ago to write about what I am grateful for. I pass it on to you. (You can find a PDF version on Patreon!)
