Do you remember the first time you felt really alone? Maybe it was just after a break-up or right after moving out on your own or maybe it just hit you in a random moment.
Being alone can be scary. It brings up a lot of feelings of vulnerability and fragility. Humans are social creatures and we love that feeling of being part of a group, a family, or a couple.
Which can sometimes make it hard to see what a beautiful gift being alone can be. It makes you really open yourself up. Alone-ness, solitude, is the sanctuary that allows you to get in touch with your essence. It strips away all of the outside stuff, all of the distractions, and allows you to get in touch with your true self.
Who are you when you aren’t being defined by someone else?
Here’s a message from Oracle of the Shapeshifters by Lucy Cavendish.
“I am alone. This is a good thing. I am not sorry for my solitude. I will defy boundaries, expectations, and the labels other wish to place on me. For this moment I stand alone. I am by myself. And that is all right. I am changing. By myself, I can change without influence. Perhaps you are changing too. You are like a tree or a snake, and you are shaking off the dusty, too-tight skin of the past, of your exile from the world of nature and, most of all, of the words other have used to describe you.
You are awakening from a prison of conditioning and thought, and freeing yourself for a future of true, authentic, powerful, blissful – and sometimes testing – times and lives. And you are changing. Your new sensitivity will help many people connect more deeply to the physical world, which is continually feeding you with imagery, energy, and messages. But before you can achieve great things, you must change, even if the only change is to choose the courage to be alone.”
It’s all right to be alone.
This card is encouraging you to let go of everyone else’s expectations, to release all of that stuff, and figure out who you are and what you really want without the expectations of the people around you tying you down. Who do you really want to be? More than that, who were you meant to be?
Work on giving yourself a little more space here and there just to spend some time in solitude. Remain connected to yourself. Re-discover things about yourself or the things you’ve pushed aside in an effort to fit in or be someone more acceptable and not yourself. Make a list of things that you really miss doing and then make time to do them.
