Get Creative this July!

Happy July my dear hearts! This month’s self care topic is all about creativity! Whoo hoo! Are you excited? I’m excited. So you might be wondering what creativity has to do with self care? A bunch!

The creative process is oftentimes extremely therapeutic. It allows an outlet for emotions that you’re holding in and repressing and having difficulty processing. I can’t even say how much writing has saved my life. Use creativity to honor your emotions. If you’re having a bad day or a happy day write about it. Write it out and let those words mean something. Do an art project that represents your current state of mind or how you’re feeling right now and see how it makes you feel.

When you make time to be creative you are making time for yourself. That’s one of the most important aspects of self care – making time for yourself. That’s not an easy thing to do in a world where we are always busy and when we’re not busy we’re doing the not-busy things like refreshing facebook and checking our e-mail and vegging out on the couch watching tv. None of those things are bad but they also aren’t a mindful and intentional use of your time.

When you make time for creativity you’re making time for you.

There are so many times that I’ve lied to myself about not having time to be creative but when I actually take that leap and start on a creative project hours will pass and somehow everything ends up working out. My schedule reshuffles itself and I never regret the time that I spend getting my creative mojo on.

What’s your favorite way to be creative?

I’d love to hear what you’re creating and I’d love for you to share it! Make an artist’s date every week this month or try to push yourself to do something creative each day! Start a diary or a journal or buy a pack of those little blank notecards and doodle, draw, or paint on one each day, it’s really fun!

Don’t forget to add self care into your daily routine to take care of all aspects of yourself and your life. Cultivate a really wonderful life for yourself by making sure that your needs are always met and exceeded with a little sweetness to boot.
