Anyone else feeling super stressed out since the start of the year? For me I’ve been battling the flu and a stomach bacteria but I feel like I’ve fallen so far behind on my 2020 goals by being out of commission for a week. A calmer life is something I need right now between taking meds, doctors appointments, and everything else.
It really highlighted for me how we prioritize doing things and making ourselves busy rather than prioritizing relieving stress.
Do you feel guilty when your stress levels are low so you start piling things onto your to-do list? Ah, so it’s not just me!
I know it’s an important part of self-care but I still have issues putting my money where my mouth is.
Failing to make your stress levels a priority has a huge effect on mental health and that’s why I want to share some quick and easy tips!
Making an effort to focus on being calm also has the bonus effect of spreading to the people around you, especially the people in your household. Think of what it would be like if you spent less time stressing together and more time on calm so that you could tackle issues together!
That’s what I love about self-care, it transforms so many parts of your life.
Let’s talk about being calm!
Surround Yourself With Positivity
Often you start your morning off without that much intense emotion, and this can mean that you’re pretty much open to allowing anyone or anything to drastically affect how you feel for the rest of the day.
Alternatively, when you wake up feeling motivated and inspired, bumps in the road will not have a huge impact on your day as you have much more positive and encouraging things to focus on.
As a result, your morning routine is the best place to start on your journey to leading a much calmer life!
So moving on from there most people go to work, so focus on how to make your workspace calmer.
Angry bosses that are never content with your work need to be spoken to with seriousness and boundaries need to be created. If that doesn’t work, it’s time to start seriously thinking about a job search.
Next we have our family members. Again, boundaries are key. Family members that encourage you to doubt your decisions or regret choices you have made need to have their boundaries reassessed. Life is too short to allow other people to drag you down and encourage feelings of stress and anxiety. Don’t let them make you feel negative or disappointed.
Surrounding yourself with positivity also extends to your physical environment. Humans are visual creatures, so surrounding yourself with inspiring and comforting images and words also goes a long way to help you feel more positive. Your environment and surroundings can have a massive effect on you, so make sure that it makes you feel as happy and as calm as possible. Whether that’s hanging up an inspirational quote, having stacks of positive films and books that make you happy on hand, or your favorite photos with family and friends, inspiring surroundings go a long way in boosting your spirits and maintaining calm energy.
