I am a huge fan of aromatherapy and recently became a certified Aromatherapist, which is all sorts of awesome! One of the ways that I relieve my stress and anxiety is to use essential oils. There is something so wonderful about soothing scents wafting through your home. Today I’m going to share with you some information about one of my favorite oils that will help relax you and relieve stress.
Lavender essential oil: The great stress reliever.
The word comes from the Latin root lavare which means ‘to wash’ as the Romans used it to scent their bath water. Lavender is one of the most popular scents you can find and it’s used in tons of stuff, especially bath products. The oil is extracted from the fresh flowers of the lavender plant.
Oh my gosh, do I love lavender. I dab a little bit on my neck before work and I just love how it makes me feel. First off, it smells awesome, and secondly, I associate it with peace and relaxation and it has that effect on me. And guess what? It doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Brands like DoTerra and Young Living are great sources for your essential oils, but if you’re on a budget I definitely recommend Plant Therapy! The quality + price of their oils is fantastic. You can check out their lavender oil right here.
Lavender helps my stress levels so much.
It can help with stress, anxiety, insomnia, and help stabilize your mood. Coupled with something like massage using a lavender oil can have some amazing benefits. The scent of lavender can also be used to treat headaches, nervous disorders, and exhaustion.
When using Lavender oil on the skin it can be used as an antiseptic, and to help with acne and eczema.
Definitely invest in a few ounces of Lavender, a little goes a long way. You can put a few drops in a spray bottle and mix it with water and spray your pillows for a deep restful sleep. You can heat some in an oil diffuser to help you wind down after a long day. A lavender scented bath is pretty much the best thing ever and using lavender in a massage oil will take you to a new level of heaven.
Do you have a favorite essential oil?
Please be careful when using essential oils. If you have a pure essential oil, always dilute it with a carrier oil before applying it to your skin. Never ingest any oils and please use common sense!

Hey beautiful! Love this post. I've always wanted to get into oils & aromatherapy but never really knew where to start, so I LOVE that you wrote about it today. And I had no idea you were a certified aromatherapist! That's SO amazing!!! Just like you.
I've got a question: Where would you suggest buying the oils? Is there any place you prefer or has better prices?
I love essential oils! I've taken several classes and I've enjoyed them all (except the really intense course I'm taking now has a ton of physiology and anatomy, and I'm not so crazy about that part… and ugh, it's so hard to study what I don't enjoy studying!)
I have many favorites – it's hard to choose one! Bergamot and frankincense and chamomile are some of my all-time faves. I also love neroli, although I always blend it with other oils because I prefer the smell of it that way instead of alone (neroli, lavender, and frankincense is a blend I put together often and I really love it for calming). Litsea (May Chang) has become a big-time favorite of mine too. Lavender and tea tree are oils I'd always want to have on hand, because they have sooo many useful purposes.
Other than all-around faves, my favorite-of-the-moment really depends on what it is I want… I have favorites I use for working with various chakras, faves for when I'm fighting a cold, faves for helping me regain calm and clarity, etc… I shied away from using essential oils for a long time because I'm so sensitive to fragrances and things, but then I discovered it's mostly *synthetic* stuff that's usually the problem for me. As long as I stick with good-quality true essential oils I haven't had problems (although I always do a skin test first before using an oil on my skin – and I never use an oil straight, I always dilute it with massage oil or lotion or water, etc)
Love this topic, Dominee, I'm so glad you posted about it!!

Lavender is one of my favourites. It's good against mosquitoes in summer, too. My favourite blend at the moment is Mandarin-Magnolia.

Love! <3
One of the saddest parts of developing multiple chemical sensitivity was when I started reacting to Lavender oil – it was really heartbreaking for me.
Now, are years of dietary and lifestyle changes I've been feeling stronger and have been far, far less reactive – especially to natural scents.
I'm about ready to buy some Lavender oil again – the joy and anticipation are lovely <3
